Principal Scientist at the Geothermal Development Company (GDC)

Dr. Antony Munika Wamalwa is a geoscientist and senior geothermal expert serving as Principal Scientist at the Geothermal Development Company (GDC). He is widely recognized for his contribution to positioning Kenya as a global leader in geothermal development and for advancing regional and international cooperation in sustainable energy.

Dr. Wamalwa holds a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences and a Master’s degree in Geophysics from the University of Texas at El Paso, USA, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Moi University, Kenya. Over the course of his career, he has played a central role in geothermal resource evaluation, strategic planning, and investment facilitation across the Kenyan Rift and in emerging geothermal regions in Africa.

At GDC, he provides technical leadership in national geothermal exploration programs, guiding multidisciplinary teams in resource confirmation, well targeting, and development planning. His work has supported the development and growth of geothermal projects that underpin Kenya’s electricity security, industrialization agenda, and climate commitments.

Dr. Wamalwa has been actively involved in regional knowledge transfer and institutional capacity building, supporting geothermal initiatives in several African countries. He is a regular participant in global energy forums and has contributed to numerous international technical publications and collaborations.

Through his professional engagements, he continues to promote partnerships between governments, industry, financiers, and research institutions aimed at accelerating clean energy deployment and strengthening Africa’s leadership in geothermal development.
