Greetings to all stakeholders of the geothermal sector!

It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to visit the Geothermal Association of Kenya (GAK) website. GAK is a representative organization that is fully committed to encouraging, facilitating, and promoting the coordination of activities related to local and worldwide geothermal research, development, and application of geothermal resources.

All the energy sources in Kenya have played a crucial role and will remain vital in the future energy demand. Energy in form of electricity is a core enabler for modernization, economic growth, and social development in line with the Kenya Government Big 4 Agenda and Vision 2030. At the same time, there is a greater emphasis on renewable sources of energy in the national energy mix for various reasons, among them: the reduction of the cost of power and carbon footprint.

In order to achieve the desired energy mix, the involvement of the Private Sector is key in complementing the efforts of the Government in the development of geothermal resources in Kenya. Currently, the country has harnessed about 949 MW, which is just over 9% of its total geothermal potential and this is a rallying call to the private sector to look into working with the GAK and other industry stakeholders in developing the resource further. The GAK is dedicated to spearheading the transformation of energy infrastructure in Kenya through the promotion of geothermal energy which, over the last decade, has been on an upward trajectory.

As the Association of the Geothermal Energy Sector in Kenya, GAK has positioned itself as the go-to place for guidance relating to business opportunities and partnerships with stakeholders from both Government and Private Sector and also in supporting the policy formulation efforts, at County and National levels. GAK also wishes to position its members as the best partners for local and international investors interested in developing geothermal energy projects in Kenya. The success of GAK will be realized through close working relationships with Government, Development Partners, Financial Institutions, and all stakeholders involved in the geothermal sector.

Finally, this is to thank Kenya Electricity Generating Company and Geothermal Development Company for the partnership over the years, the members of the Board of Directors, the founding members of GAK, and all our members for the continued support in rolling the geothermal wheel to a new level.

We welcome you all to register as members of the Association both at individual and institutional levels. Together, we will be part of and contribute to sustainable energy development, which is the route to our future aspirations as a geothermal community.
